The decorating begins!

It's the most wonderful time of the year...

After I enjoy time at my in laws I then go to my parents house for the rest of my vacation (I love being a teacher!) I start thinking about this time of year in October! I love spending days just listening to christmas music and decorating my parents house! We all get to decorate the kids tree.

My dad in the grown up rocking chair. My mom in the KIDS rocking chair!
A, C and Me! I had to wear my Christmas cheer shirt!

Last year was the first year I actually got to help my mom. She is a bit particular and so I was shocked when she let ME help! IT was so much fun that I got to do it again this year. This time I did almost all of it while my mother shopped (cyber Monday) for 3 hours!
... and everyone telling you be a good cheer! It is the most wonderful time of the year!

Thanksgiving

Each year M and I "rotate" which family we go to for Thanksgiving. One year it's my family the next is his. So this year it was his! My mother in law had some lovely decorations that I had to snap some photos of! I like festive decorations for any time of the year!
 In the bathroom!
 Table set for dinner!
 On the coffee table!
M cooked the turkey! His 3rd turkey of the week! It was the best! So juicy and flavorful!
Look at that! The beautiful bird! I am not a meat lover but I do like turkey!
I had brought my I Pad home and the nieces came over to visit after dinner.
They all wanted to play with the  I pad!

Our Annual Friends Thanksgiving Dinner

Each year for the past 7ish years our friends have gotten together to have a thanksgiving dinner.
We each bring our own dish to share. It began in Russel Hall. Then to Gross Hall for the past at least 5 years. On year we had it at a friends house in town. This year was the last year in Gross Hall since the building will not be in use (we think). You might be thinking Hall? Well I live a very interesting life which is a different story.

This year M made home made Pierogies along with the turkey (he makes it every year and it is juicy and delicious)
 L decorated the table!
Yummy Food!

 Lots of Friends all together!
M and I with his hunting beard. (NO COMMENT)
G and M Best Buddies forever!
We are so thankful for the great group of friends that we have!
Happy Almost Thanksgiving!

Day 10 Rejecting Excess

How do you reject excess in your life?
http://thehumblehomemaker.blogspot.com/

Tayna from The humblehomemaker had some amazing ways to reject excess that I had to repeat them!
Some ways I will reject excess:

  1. Limiting presents for my children, and placing a huge focus on giving as opposed to receiving.
  2. Cutting back on some of our *favorites* at the supermarket during the holiday season to account for buying some canned foods to donate to soup kitchens.
  3. Being sure to not be wasteful with any left overs that we have from Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.
  4. Donating old clothes and toys.
  5. Making homemade gifts.

Day 8 - Life is a Vapor

Many people don't think about what they are doing in the moment. They plan life, like I do. They think about the future and plan for the future and sometimes don't stop to think about what they are doing in the moment. I challenge you to stop and think about what you are doing today. Ask yourself is what I am doing important? I myself am going to try and soak up every moment in every day and make it count.
Thank you Lord for giving me another day!

Day 7 Practice Happiness...with a Thankful Heart

Day 7 here for my 30 days of being thankful challenge. Happiness is purely a choice. You can look at things as a negative or a positive. I'm choosing positive. Things that make me happy include: sunny days (a gift from God),. Clean and Organized home, spending time with family and currently Christmas music. I have started listening to it in my car. I can't help it! I LOVE this time of year, between Halloween and New Years that is.
All of this happiness reminds me how thankful I am for another day of life to see the sun. The ability to create a warm, clean and organized environment. The ability to see family often and to enjoy the gift of music.
What are you thankful for? There are so many wonderful gifts that we are given each and every day!

Day 6 Turning Ungratefulness into Joy

Sundays are a day when I feel most connected to God. Days I attend Mass are the days I feel most connected to God. Reading scriptures and in my case of being a Catholic receiving the body and blood of the Lord fills my heart with love and hope. This past Sunday I prayed to God to give me guidance and peace. I wanted needed to feel joy and be grateful for what I have to offer to others. The Communion Song was On Eagles Wings. As I sang the words "and he will raise you up" I felt a sense of peace and joy! It was nothing I had had every experienced before but it was amazing!
In a time when you feel ungrateful think of all of things God has given you. Make a list. Tell a friend. Let all thoses wonderful things fill your heart with joy!

Day 5 Be thankful to Him

Our Challange today is to write 5 things we want then for each want we need to write things we are thankful for.
Well don't be shocked but the first want is to have a baby and start a family! This is my only want. There is not a day that goes by when my heart is full of love for a child of my own.
1. I am thankful for my family and friends who are understanding and supportive.
2. I am thankful for my home.
3. I am thankful for my job.
4. I am thankful for my car so I can travel to see my family.
5. I am thankful for the women who blog. They have helped me realize that God has a plan for me.

Thank you Lord for giving me the strength to become a better follower of Christ!

Ephesians 5:20 says   "giving thanks always for ALL things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ"

Day 4 Graditude Pass or Fail?

If you have a moment today, part of our 30 days to be Thanful Challange we take a look at Romans 8:28
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose"
I often wonder about my purpose. What am I suppose to do on earth for the Lord? I strongly feel my calling to  be teaching young children. I also feel that loving others might be my purpose as well. I ask God daily for his guidance.
Today I am thankful for my friends and my family. Family means so much to me and I am so blessed to have a family who are loving and supportive.

What do you think your purpose is? What is God asking of you?

Day 3 An Attitude of Gratitude

There have been MANY days months in the past few years where I look to God and say Why? Why me? Why not me? What have I done to deserve this? I have not had an attitude of gratitude and as a women of faith and love I NEED to have an attitude of gratitude! I look at my life and see only the things I can not have instead of the things I do have in my life. I feel like I am not living life fully to they way Jesus asked us too. We all need to step back when things are not going our way in life and take a Attitude Gratitude Time Out!
In my time out I see a husband who is trying to be supportive. All of my basic needs are met. A family who loves me and a life full of love. Friends who are sticking by me through my good times and bad. I am grateful today and thankful today for all the people in my life that make it wonderful.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever- Psalm 106:1

Day 2 Giving Thanks Tradition / Craft

When I first say this challenge I knew I needed to focus on how thankful I am for everything God has given me! I wanted to extend this challenge to my students and so every class I have (I see all grades once a week) there " ticket" out the door is to write down on a leaf what they are thankful for with their name on it. I then add theses leaves to a tree. Our Giving thanks tree. I think this would be a great thing to do at home with your family or in a classroom / school setting. Every time my students enter the room they will be reminded of all of the people, places and things that students are thankful for.
I feel so blessed to be part of an amazing school and to be able to pray and speak freely about the Lord!
I am thankful for the opportunity God has given me to teach in a school full of faith!

Day 1 - Blessing in Disguise

Today is day 1 of my 30 days of being thankful challenge. It is also All Saints Day in the Catholic Church. This morning we celebrated mass at church to remember all of the saints and family members that have come and gone before us. Today I had many thoughts of grandparents and great grandparents that came before me and how much they touched my life as well as my family and my parents lives. They built the foundation of what a family should be and why my family is so important to me. Today I am thankful for my grandparents and great grandparents and the life they lived. There love for God has been passed on from one generation to another.
